Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 March 2026
Introduction
Countdown is a macOS menu bar application that displays a floating countdown to your next Google Calendar event. This privacy policy explains how Countdown handles your information.
Countdown has no server or backend. All data processing happens locally on your Mac.
Information We Access
When you connect your Google account, Countdown requests read-only access to your Google Calendar data using the calendar.readonly OAuth scope. This allows the app to read:
- Your calendar list (names and colours)
- Event details (name, start time, end time, and number of attendees)
Countdown only reads this information. It never creates, modifies, or deletes any calendar data.
How We Use Your Information
Your calendar data is used solely to:
- Display a countdown showing minutes until your next event
- Show the event name and time range when you click the countdown circle
- Filter events based on your preferences (e.g. meetings only, selected calendars)
Data Storage
- Calendar data is held in memory while the app is running and refreshed every 60 seconds. It is not written to disk.
- OAuth tokens are stored securely in your macOS Keychain, encrypted and protected by your system password.
- Preferences (selected calendars, display settings) are stored locally using macOS UserDefaults.
Data Sharing
Countdown does not share, sell, rent, or trade your data with any third party. Your data never leaves your device, except for API requests sent directly to Google's servers over HTTPS to fetch your calendar events.
Analytics and Tracking
Countdown does not include any analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or tracking of any kind.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Countdown's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your Rights
- You can disconnect your Google account at any time from the app's menu bar popover. This removes your OAuth tokens from the Keychain.
- You can also revoke Countdown's access from your Google Account permissions.
- Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
Children's Privacy
Countdown is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
